Joy after the Fire

Winner:  Best Illustration
for a Non-Fiction Book
Early review:  This is the first time I've read a book on a computer ... and what a great reading experience!  "Joy after the Fire" is a gripping and honest look at an emotionally wrenching time, and yet it is also inspiring and filled with hope. The "Pause and Ponder" questions connect the story to our own experiences, and the deeply engaging collages Joyce shares bring vivid messages of pain and joy and appreciated beauty. It is a  memoir that reaches out to all with the message that there are great benefits in surviving a devastating loss.  -- Kathryn Evans, author of "Ask Yourself!"
Early review: The author invites you on her poignant roller coaster after the death of her husband of 25 years with humor, insight and grace.  Her questions to “ponder” give the reader an opportunity to view life through a prism of optimism and self-exploration.  And her art is amazing.  I LOVE this book.

" ... the human heart is never completely born.  It is being birthed in every experience of your life.  Everything that happens to you has the potential to deepen you."
-- John O'Donohue, Anam Cara

I visited Mt. Saint Helens a few years after the eruption.  The devastation was still obvious, but the whole area was teaming with new growth.  Our lives are like that.  Most of us are touched by loss -- loved ones, illness, financial crisis, accidents.

When we’re in the midst of the chaos, it’s hard to believe that new life and new joy can arise from the debris.  But, it does.
In late 2006, life as I knew it ended when my husband died of prostate cancer.  I immediately broke Rule #1 (make no major decisions in the first year after a significant loss) and embarked on a journey that took me into the heart of darkness and then into a new land of miracles and joy.
Now available is my book about this five-year journey, titled Joy after the Fire, when grief, despair and loss become the New Seeds of Growth and Joy.  Because art was a major source of my new joy, the book is filled with my artwork.  The book can be purchased for iPads through iBookstore and as a downloadable pdf by pressing the Buy Now button at the top of the right column of this blog.
If you or someone you know is going through that dark night of loss and grief, this book can give you hope and comfort that new seeds of growth and joy are slowly sprouting.
May your heart be comforted and your path lightened.

Press the BUY NOW button above to receive the pdf version of the book.  You can also share it with your friends and family ... details on the inside of the book.
